Investigating the Level of Attention to the Six Educational Areas in Elementary Science and Mathematics Textbooks

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate the level of attention paid to the six areas of education, the document of fundamental transformation of education, in the textbooks of experimental sciences and mathematics for the primary school. The research method was a descriptive study of content. The analytical population of the study included the books of "Experimental Sciences" and "Mathematics" for the primary school in the academic year 1402-1403. The research data were analyzed and described using the Shannon entropy analytical method. The results indicate that among the textbooks of experimental sciences for the sixth grade, the most attention is paid to the dimensions and components of the six areas of education, the document of fundamental transformation of education, in the fifth-year experimental sciences textbook with 19.40 percent, and the least attention is paid to the second-year experimental sciences textbook with 11.85 percent. Also, based on the results obtained in the textbooks of experimental sciences for the primary school, the most attention is paid to the biological and physical dimension with 32.55 percent, and the least attention is paid to the aesthetic and artistic dimension with 7.50 percent. Among the 6th grade math textbooks, the most attention to the dimensions and components of the six areas of the fundamental transformation of education is paid to the 6th grade math textbook with 18.00 percent and the least attention is paid to the 2nd grade math textbook with 15.50 percent. Also, based on the results obtained in the elementary school math textbooks, the most attention is paid to the scientific and technological dimension with 36.37 percent and the least attention is paid to the political and social dimension with 11.37 percent.
