A Study of the Intended Curriculum in Terms of Paying Attention to Values Education in the First Grade of Elementary School

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the first grade textbooks from the perspective of paying attention to values ​​education. In order to answer the research question, a qualitative analysis method was used using a deductive research method. The analysis was based on the Sanger and Osgathorpe model (2005) including the components of the goal, content, form of content presentation, teaching method and evaluation, which in this research used the educated and native Maleki model (2012). The statistical population of this research included all the textbooks of the first grade of primary school from 1400-1401. The sampling was purposeful and the entire study area, and all the lessons of the first grade of primary school from grades one to three (first grade of primary school) including Persian, Quran, Heavenly Gifts, Experimental Sciences, Social Studies and Mathematics textbooks, in total 15 volumes of books were analyzed. The results of the research showed that for values ​​education, comprehensive and multidimensional research is available in textbooks. Educational values ​​in each lesson are designed as a logical and deep system from simple to complex concepts. All core subjects (Quran, social studies, Persian, science, and mathematics) are presented in a combined, spiral, and superficial manner. The form of content presentation in the first grades is mostly pictures and drawings, while in the second and third grades, it is the study of text, poetry, and stories. The teaching method is diverse, inclusive, and student-centered. The qualitative evaluation method is continuous and non-threatening and is carried out through observing the behavior and measuring the performance of students. Finally, the findings indicate that textbooks in the first grade of elementary school have consciously tried to institutionalize the teaching of values ​​in the education process in necessary ways and with the developmental characteristics of children.
